FRIENDS Convention 2009 | Denver Workshop 2009

The 12th Annual Convention of FRIENDS:
The Association of Young People Who Stutter

Dates: July 23 - 25, 2009
Place: Tampa, Florida

The 2009 Annual convention, on July 23-25, will be held at Embassy Suites Tampa - USF/Busch Gardens is near major league sports stadiums, the Florida Aquarium – Tampa Bay and the exciting Busch Gardens theme park.

Convention Scholarships are now available
Due to the generosity of corporate sponsors and many of our members, we are pleased to announce that scholarships are now available to provide financial assistance for families who would like to attend our annual conference. Our goal is that families who cannot afford to join us will now be able to attend. If you would like more information regarding scholarships please tell us by emailing our Finance Committee at FriendsGrants@gmail.com.

Speech therapists are also asked to email us to help identify families who would benefit from assistance. FRIENDS is very grateful to the generosity of many individuals and companies, which allows us to offer this financial help. Denver Workshop 2009

Friends: The National Association for Young People Who Stutter &
The Center for Stuttering Therapy Present

Children, Teens and Adults who Stutter:
Families, Professionals and Friends Working Together

This one-day workshop is designed to bring together young children and teenagers who stutter, their parents, and speech-language pathologists. Adults who stutter are encouraged to join us as well. Separate workshops will be presented for adults and young people.

The workshop format includes brief presentations, small discussion groups and panel presentations. Emphasis will be placed on integrating treatment techniques and support services for people who stutter. Offerings for children will include enjoyable workshops on stuttering facilitated by speech-language pathologists and members of the adult stuttering community.

Young People:

  • Meet others who stutter
  • Have fun talking!
  • Learn about your stuttering and ways to increase your confidence communicating

Parents:

  • Find out what you can do to support you child.
  • Meet other parents and share experiences

SLP’s and SLP students:

  • Learn more about stuttering, current treatments and the support available to people who stutter.
