FRIENDS publishes Reaching
Out, a digest of articles, reflections, stories,
and information about the stuttering experience of young people,
their
families, and the professionals who work with them. It is upbeat,
includes
reviews
of pertinent books and films, and will update you on your friends
within
FRIENDS. Many of the articles are written by our own members and
tell of
experiences that anyone who stutters can relate to and learn from.
Below are
some
examples of articles featured in the Reaching Out newsletter. We
hope you
enjoy
them.
- When Life Throws
You a Curveball
"It is not a sin to attempt and fail. It is a sin not to make
an attempt at all," is a quote that all people who stutter
should know. Whenever called upon in school to speak, I think
of this quote...
- Feeling Beautiful
I have watched my wife Peggy give birth to our three children,
but as one midwife we talked to described the experience for
the husband - each time it was like going to a dance and not
being able to hear the music...
- Shame
There were no self-help or online discussion groups when I was
growing up. Not until I was in my twenties did I meet and
talk to an adult who stuttered. I wish that as a kid, I had
had that opportunity...
- Dear Rachel
Your speech was excellent. Educating others is the key and you
are doing a wonderful service for all of us who stutter by sharing
your speech dream with your language arts class...
- Explaining
I am blessed to have two beautiful and healthy sons. My oldest,
Jonathan, is nine and from my first marriage. The youngest is
James, four, and from my present marriage. Both are very normal
boys in most respects: love to ride bikes, love chocolate and
pizza, and hate naps but want to stay up as late as possible...
- Now You Know How I Feel
Hi, my name is Joshua Teitcher and I am ten and a half years
old. In my science class we were learning about Isaac Newton
and his Three Laws of Motion...
- Journeying Through Juggling
Stuggling and Juttering is a program that uses juggling as a
metaphor for stuttering at all levels of the therapeutic process...
